Mission

Friends of Jamaica Seattle (FOJS) is a non-profit, non-political organization that promotes understanding and appreciation of Jamaican culture and heritage, participates in the advancement of education in Jamaica by supplying schools with books and educational supplies, and provides emergency and compassionate assistance to Jamaicans and persons of Jamaican heritage in Seattle.

History

Friends of Jamaica Seattle (FOJS), was founded in 1996 by a group of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica living in the Puget Sound region with the primary purpose to provide charitable and educational assistance to Jamaica.

Since its founding, FOJS has organized several fundraising events, the proceeds of which have been used to purchase computers, scientific equipment, and other school supplies for schools in Jamaica.

Projects

Some of the Jamaican schools and institutions that FOJS have served in the past include:

  • Mile Gully High School
  • Mile Gully Primary and Basic Schools
  • Porus Basic School
  • Street Kids
  • Content Basic School
  • Tacius Golding High School

The first and foremost goal of our non-profit organization is to make a difference in as many people's lives as possible.
